Fun videos to watch with your child:
Reading: We will develop and use strategies to decode words. We will learn 2 more reading strategies: "Tryin' Lion" and "Flippy Dolphin"
Writing: We will continue learning how to use transition words to help tell a narrative story in sequential order.
Phonics/Spelling: We will concentrate on the short /o/ sound.
***A list of the first grade snap words were sent home today (Friday). Please keep this list handy throughout the year. Snap words are words that your child should be able to read "in a snap". Practicing reading these words are essential. We practice them in class, but if you see your child struggling, please make flashcards to help at home. There are four sections to the word list. Each section corresponds with the four grading periods. Thanks so much!
Social Studies - We will finish out unit on communities and citizenship and begin our next unit of study. What does it mean to have a growth mindset? We will talk about ways that we can have a growth mindset in school and at home.
Science - This week in science we will be learning about different materials and why they are useful or not useful. For example, bricks are great for building a house because they are strong but not useful for a bed because they are hard.
