Look at what we will be learning next week:

Math -  We will focus on addition strategies to help us remember our facts.  Learners will also be generating a number greater than or less than a given number up to 20.  We will continue to compose and decompose numbers up to 20 while solving addition and subtraction problems.

Math Activities to do at home or in the car

*Say 5 numbers 2, 12, 22, 32, 42.  Ask your child to tell you the next 5 numbers

*Please count with your child daily from any given number. :-) Your child has been working on counting to 120 by tens.  Let them show you!  :-)

*skip count by tens

*Have your child pick a two digit number less than 20 and have them tell you what is 10 more or 10 less.  For those of you who want a challenge, have them pick a two digit number greater than 20.  Have a discussion using these questions. What is one more and one less?  Is it even or odd?  How many tens does your number have?  Can you tell me the expanded form?  What digit is in the ones place, etc.

Language Arts -

Reading:  We will talk about our last 2 reading strategies, "Chunky Monkey" and "Skippy Frog".  We will practice using our 7 strategies when we read a tricky word.

Writing:   We will continue our narrative writing unit, concentrating on topic sentences and closing sentences.

Phonics/Spelling:  We will review our 5 short vowels.  There will not be pretest or a spelling test.

**Please make sure that you are practicing reading the first group of sight words with your child.  There are 13 words in the first group.  If your child can already read the first group of words, please start on the second group to get a head start.

Social Studies -   We will talk about the voting process as a way of making choices and decisions.

**Most Fridays we do a Mind Mission in Social Studies.  Mind Missions are designed to help your child learn how to problem solve, while working in a group.  Don't forget to ask your child about what Mind Mission they did on Friday!  Mind Missions help us practice problem solving, leadership, growth mindset, cooperation, patience, sharing, and presenting to a group. We love it!

Science -  This week in science we will be learning about energy and how it is useful in our everyday lives.  We will learn about sound, light, and heat.

Announcements:

*Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day.  Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening as we do not have chargers at school for the Ipads. Thank you!!
