Look at what we will be learning next week:

Math -  Learners will practice adding a multiple of 10 with a 1 digit number.  We will practice skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's to 120.  We will continue to decompose and compose numbers to 120 in more than one way.

Please see the link below to count by 2's to 100  (1st grade's goal is to count to 120 by 2's)

That makes 10

Math Activities to do with your child at home or while driving in the car

  • Generate story problems about family members.  For example, Mom went to the store and bought some cookies.  She ate a half a dozen cookies in the car.  Now she has 10 cookies.  How many cookies did mom have in the beginning?  :-)
  • Practice counting to 120 by ones from any given number.
  • Practice counting to 120 by tens from any given number.
  • Practice counting to 120 by fives.
  • Practice counting to 120 by twos.

Language Arts  -
**For the next few weeks I will be completing district MIDDLE OF THE YEAR language arts assessments.  These assessments will consist of the MAP test and a dyslexia screener test.  The results will be sent home when I complete assessments with all learners.  Since these assessments are done individually, it will take me a few weeks to get to everyone assessed.  Thank you for your patience!

Reading:  We will concentrate on using strategies to decode complex words.  We will also talking about the elements of a story and author's purpose.

Writing:  We got a slow start to our new unit and were finishing up some writing skills these past two weeks.  Next week we will finally begin our non-fiction writing unit.

Spelling: We will be talking about the /oa/ vowel team and how it makes the long /o/ sound.  Remember, when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!

Grammar: We will continue to work on nouns and at the end of the week we will start digging into verbs.

Social Studies - We will gather and sequence information about a topic.

Science -  We will continue with our weather unit.

Miscellaneous Information From Your Teachers

*Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day.  Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening as we do not have chargers at school for the Ipads. Thank you!!

*As the weather turns colder, please remember that we will still be going outside for recess.  District policy states that if the "feels like" temperature is above 32 degrees we will be going outside for some fresh air.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriate for recess weather.  Also, please write your child's name on the tag of their jacket.  Names in the jackets help keep them out of lost and found!

*We have a short snack time each day. It is important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners. Also, please make sure that your child's water bottle has a "spill proof" cap.  Thank you for your help!

TCE Yearbook

Ms. Martin, our principal, sends out a weekly parent newsletter. Please make sure you read this every week. You can click the image above for easy access.

Volunteers
If you anticipate volunteering on campus at all this year, please click here.  A new form must be completed each year.

Birthday Treats

Birthday treats brought by students must be store bought, have its ingredients listed, and run by the nurse before given to students.  It is recommended that the treats are individually wrapped and nonperishable treats that are easy to pass out. 😊 Birthday treats will continue to be passed out at the end of the day to be eaten at home.
