Math - Learners will say a number one more, one less, 10 more, 10 less than a given number. We will also continue to solve word problems with the unknown in various positions. Please continue to work with your child on counting by twos to 120. I am so impressed with this group of mathematicians!

Math Activities to do with your child at home or while driving in the car

Generate story problems about family members. For example, Mom went to the store and bought some cookies. She ate a half a dozen cookies in the car. Now she has 10 cookies. How many cookies did mom have in the beginning? :-)
Practice counting to 120 by ones from any given number.
Practice counting to 120 by tens from any given number.
Practice counting to 120 by fives.
Practice counting to 120 by twos.

Language Arts -

I have finished the district M-Class assessment (which is used as a dyslexia screener). The results will be sent home on January 31st. We will be taking the middle of the year reading district MAP test in February. 1B and 1C will take it on February 3rd and 1A will take it on February 4th. Please make sure your child's Ipad is charged on these days.

Reading: We will continue to use strategies to decode complex words by looking specifically at vowel teams that we find in words that we read.

Writing: We will continue our non-fiction writing unit by being able to understand the difference between writing facts and writing opinions.

Spelling: We will continue to talk about different ways to make a long /e/ sound. We will be concentrating on /ea/ vowel team. Remember, when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!

Grammar: We will concentrate on our study of verbs.

Social Studies - We will be learning about historical figures and how they influenced their community, state, and nation.

Science - We will learn about objects in the sky such as the sun, moon, and stars.

Miscellaneous Information From Your Teachers

*Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day. Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening as we do not have chargers at school for the Ipads. Thank you!!

*As the weather turns colder, please remember that we will still be going outside for recess. District policy states that if the "feels like" temperature is above 32 degrees we will be going outside for some fresh air. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriate for recess weather. Also, please write your child's name on the tag of their jacket. Names in the jackets help keep them out of lost and found!

*We have a short snack time each day. It is important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners. Also, please make sure that your child's water bottle has a "spill proof" cap. Thank you for your help!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In February your child’s Professional School Counselor will meet with all students about the topic of personal safety. Coppell ISD uses Play It Safe. Play It Safe is a research-based, age-appropriate abuse prevention program.
The purpose of this personal safety presentation is to provide all children with information and practical skills to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations. Topics that will be addressed vary at each grade level as they consider the child’s age and maturity level.
Our Professional School Counselors are the presenters and will visit with each classroom, K-5, for approximately 30-45 minutes. Stories, puppets, group discussions, and videos are used in the low-key, age-appropriate presentation.

If you DO NOT want your child to view the Play It Safe Program, please email your campus' Professional School Counselor by Friday, February 4th. Your child’s teacher will make sure that your child goes to an alternate learning environment during the Play It Safe presentation.
If you would like your child to participate in this valuable learning opportunity no further action is needed.

Birthday Treats

Birthday treats brought by students must be store bought, have its ingredients listed, and run by the nurse before given to students. It is recommended that the treats are individually wrapped and nonperishable treats that are easy to pass out. 😊 Birthday treats will continue to be passed out at the end of the day to be eaten at home.
